Thursday Blog Entry

  • Did anyone critique your work this week? If so, what were their impressions?

Candice Breitz gave an unbiased critique of my work, one of the first who didn’t know me, or even know of the situation before viewing the work. The comments were really helpful and I was really pleased with her response as a viewer. Her recommendation of abstracting the iconic imagery of the medical world was interesting. I tried to communicate my new direction, but I felt it was hard for her to critique ideas instead of work. I wish I could’ve shown her my video game work, I think she would’ve enjoyed it, but it was more important to show the newer work.

  • What was the most motivational or creative moment of the past week?

Nervously turning on the camera in the Breitz critique. I hope the footage revealed something

  • What do you want to achieve in next week's studio practice?

Taking the camera around with me everywhere I go.

  • What did you achieve in your studio this past week?

Began compiling the first raw footage from my new project.

  • What has been an artistic failure this week?

I didn’t record my meeting with Paul, I recreated some of the comments in the Breitz critique, but I don’t know how well it turned out.

  • What was the most profound thought in relation to your practice this week?

Other people have done this work and this is a naturally choice for handling traumatic events, I just need to figure out what else I’m going to say with this.

  • If there was a visiting artist this week, what is your impression of their work and process in relation to your own?

I loved Breitz’ work. Most of the lecture consisted of me smiling like an idiot with that glee she spoke of. I feel like we could’ve had a better interaction at another stage in my work. I flirt around with many of the content areas she deals in. It was nice to have someone preaching the love of the repetition.

McCain just got BARACK-ROLLED!!!
